In Key Stage 1 we use a synthetic approach to the teaching of phonics and use the Sounds-Write programme. 

Art and Design

Pupils explore and develop ideas using a variety of materials and by looking at famous pieces of art from across the years and cultures.

Music

Children are taught how to sing and play musical instruments in a controlled way and to explore sound and create their own short compositions. They listen to many types of music, learning about how it was created and how it was used. Pupils have opportunities to learn to play the recorder and the ukulele as part of their music lessons at school and we also have a peripatetic music teacher who visits school on a weekly basis to teach a range of musical instruments.
